What is Reader's Theatre?
Reader’s Theatre is minimal theatre in support of literature and reading. A collaborative reading, of a script, by a group of people which focuses on oral presentation and uses little to no movement, costumes etc.
In this unit students participate in a somewhat traditional literature circle as they are placed in groups reading the same material. Discussions focus on determining importance and synthesizing ideas so as to collaboratively create an RT (Reader’s Theatre) script which tells the story in a condensed format. Students then practice and perform their script for classmates.
You will also find below, a Powerpoint Presentation I use to introduce Reader's Theatre. It covers what is on the handout Actor Objectives, along with a few other slides. Feel free to use it as you wish (see READER'S THEATRE 7.ppt attachment below)
